This is a compact AC servo motor. A servo motor is different from a plain motor in that it includes precise feedback (so it “knows” its shaft position) and is controlled in a closed-loop for motion/positioning tasks (not just run and go).It belongs to the “1S-series” servo system (model numbers starting “R88M-1[]” for the motor part). The full servo system includes both the motor and a matching servo drive. The motor here is one half of that system.
